The ‘Scottish’ News – Official Weekly Information Sheet
A few years ago, the Academy ‘invented’ a famous Newsletter which we decided to name as ‘The Scottish News’. This was a weekly periodical which went out religiously in ‘the wee small hours’ of every Friday morning. My goodness the amount of parents, kids, grannies and grandad’s that used to actually stay up or set their alarm to get this periodical was uncanny. People used to read it during breakfast, people had it sent to their work, people forwarded it to friends, families, teachers and neighbours especially if their child was ‘in it’ and got a mention.
Should it not arrive, merry hell would come into play and we were bombarded with e-mails saying ‘where is the Scottish News’. Didn’t matter if the Editor was sick or was too tired one night to put it together… these people had to get it.
Now lots of people were not on the internet in those days, or did not have a printer – so we used to print off loads to be issued at Training on a Friday night… and they were charged £1 a copy. By 7.10pm… there were none left – this was the popularity of this leaflet.
This periodical ran from January 2006 to June 2008 and was one of the most interesting things we ever did at the Academy. Due to the size of the Academy, we had to stop it in June 2008 and replace it with an ‘information e-mail’… which we did up until December 2010… and this will now be replaced with our new ‘Web Site’.
By popular demand, parents have asked for all the ‘old Scottish Newsletters’ to be uploaded onto the Web Site… to re-live old memories… and that is exactly what we have done.
